Bio
Attorney James L. Olmsted is the founder of Conservation & Preservation Counsel, a single attorney law firm with a multi-state practice. Mr. Olmsted received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis, School of Law. During law school, he interned for Judge Edward C. Reed at the United States District Court, District of Nevada. After graduating from law school, he clerked for Justice Charles E. Springer on the Nevada Supreme Court. Mr. Olmsted is an active member of the state bar associations of California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. He has been practicing land use, zoning and conservation easement law for over 20 years. He has served on the board of directors of numerous organizations, including the Truckee Donner Land Trust, of which he is a past president. CPC's office is near the University of Oregon Law School. The University of Oregon School of Law Environmental and Natural Resources Program, rated among the top six in the nation, stays on the cutting-edge of land conseration and preservation through its ENR Program courses. CPC attorney James L. Olmsted has contributed substantially to University of Oregon School of Law scholarship, including organizing nine high level panels on conservation easements and global warming issues. Mr. Olmsted is a frequent speaker and has published numerous articles on conservation easements in law review journals nationwide.
